Propolis is a substance produced by bees with disinfectant, healing, analgesic and anti-inflammatory qualities. It fights against bacteria and fungi to prevent infections. Helps wounds heal and soothes irritated skin.
More than 180 components have been isolated in propolis. Among those components, there are resins and balms which contain flavonoids and phenolic acid or their ethers (50%); they contain variable amounts of wax (7.5-35%) which affect the corresponding components; volatile oils (10%); pollen (5%) and impurities (4.4-19.5%). They also contain small amounts of terpenes, tannins, the remains of the salivary gland secretions of bees and, depending on the origin, possible contaminants. The active components are bioflavonoids which include flavones, flavonols, flavanonols and flavonones.
Propolis soap is recommended for daily hygiene. It is especially convenient for people with skin imperfections (juvenile skin), and with fatty or otherwise problematic skin.
