The dreamcatcher is a symbol of protection originally created by North American Indian tribes. The main function of the dreamcatcher is to protect people’s dreams at night by capturing nightmares in its braided web and channelling good dreams through the feathers.
In the past, dreamcatchers were handmade from natural materials. The hoops were usually made of willow wood and wrapped in leather, symbolising the cycle of life and the movement of the sun and the moon. The net was made from nettle fibres or sinew, simulating a spider’s web.
The beads or charms knotted in the web symbolise the good dreams that have failed to pass through the central circle and have been immortalised forever.
The dreamcatcher presented is ideal because of its small size to carry in the car or put on top of the bed.
