Black onyx, also known as onyx, is a stone used in gemmotherapy to relax and purify the body. Its deep black colour is considered to absorb negative energies.
It is widely used in jewellery and ornamentation as a decorative piece. It is a hard stone, but its porous surface is very fragile and can be easily scratched; when not in use, it is recommended to store black onyx in cotton wool.
It is a type of semi-precious stone of the agate family, which arises in the earth’s interior as a result of the accumulation of gases emitted by volcanoes. It is composed mostly of silicon oxide.
Tumbled are fragments of rock that are usually polished naturally (usually in streams). Their shapes are usually more or less rounded, without edges and with a smooth surface, due to the wear suffered by erosive processes.
